Canada Maple Leafs

Canadian Maple Leaf is available in both silver and gold and is minted by the Royal Canadian Mint. The coins first appeared in the 1970s, which makes them relatively young. The gold coins are very popular among both collectors and investors and are available in four variants; 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz even if variants from different anniversaries occur. In 2007 Royal Canadian Mint produced a 100 kg gold coin in 24K pure gold worth 3.5 million Canadian dollars. It had a diameter of 50 cm, and a thickness of 3 cm.

Maple Leaf is one of the world's most well-known and popular bullion investment options, along with Krugerrand, American Eagle and Australia's Kangaroo. Over 29 million troy ounces of Maple Leaf in gold have been sold since its introduction in 1979. According to the Royal Canadian Mint, Maple Leaf was also the first gold coin with a gold purity of 999.9.

Modern security - micro-engravings and Bullion DNA

All 1 oz 99.99% Maple Leaf gold coins from 2018 have three unique features for increased security; Fine radial lines that are difficult to recreate, a micro-engraved maple leaf and Bullion DNA, a pattern that gives each coin its own unique look with an engraved matrix. Each matrix used to produce Maple Leaf is laser engraved with a security mark for counterfeiting. Royal Canadian Mint's registration process saves an encrypted images with an algorithm signature and stores them in a database. Combined with the proprietary Bullion DNA reader and software, the coin's authenticity can be verified in an instant.

In 2013, Royal Canadian Mint introduced a new and unique security feature to confirm the authenticity of its Gold Maple Leaf coins. The feature comes from the same award-winning security technology applied to Canada's $ 1 and $ 2 circulation coins, and consists of a textured maple leaf, micro-engraved with laser technology on a local area on the coin side. In the center of this mark, which is visible under magnification, is the number 18, which indicates the year of issue of the coin.
